Spring Projects You Should Do in Your Home
Prepare Your Home for Spring with These Projects
Get your home Spring ready and in shape with these projects that will freshen up your home. From adding some extra curb appeal to washing down patio furniture, get your home into top shape for the warm weather with these tips.
Clean Your Outdoor Cushions
Your indoor/outdoor cushions and pillows have been packed away in your garage or shed all winter long. Give them a good look over to make sure they’re still in good condition, if they have covers remove and wash them. If you find they’re in rough shape, you probably are better off replacing them.
Wipe Down Outdoor Furniture
This seems obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t remember to properly wipe down their outdoor furniture. Yes rain will wash away some dirt and pollen, a good thorough wipe down between all the crevasses will keep your outdoor furniture looking its best.
Clean Outdoor Rugs
An outdoor rug will last longer if you take care of it as you would any indoor rug. You should periodically vacuum it, hose it off, and let it dry, even though it’s considered an outdoor rug, taking proper care of it doesn’t hurt.
Pressure Wash Your Patio
Power washing is one of the few tasks you may actually enjoy doing. If you rent a pressure washer, the rental center will show you how to properly use it. After a few minutes of pressure washing you’ll see a huge difference, pressure washing can remove years of dirt from your patio, walkways, and siding.
Re-Paint Your Front Door
Years of sun can really wash out the color of your wooden door, weather can even warp and crack the surface of your front door over time. If you have a wooden door that has seen better days, consider repainting it! Repainting and repairing your front door will not only give your entrance a little facelift, but will give your homes overall exterior look a fresher feel.
Get That Grill Ready
If you like to grill throughout the spring and summer, try to give your grill a deep clean at least twice a year to keep it in top form. Wipe down the grill’s exterior and remember always disconnect the gas before you do a deep clean!
Repair Any Damaged Screens
Even the tiniest tear in a screen can lead to dozens of mosquitoes and flies into your home. If you find any issues that need repair fix them as soon as you can, it’s pretty easy and you’ll only need a few tools. If you find larger holes or issues with your screens, consider replacing them all together.
Switch Direction on the Ceiling Fans
Most fans are designed to change direction of the fans rotation at the flip of a switch at the base. In the summer, the blades should run forward or counter clockwise, which will move the air down, creating a breeze.
Re-caulk Windows & Doors
Keeping your home comfortable and cool during the warmer months can sometimes be a challenge. Keep your air conditioning costs low by re-caulking your windows and doors. A well maintained, properly sealed home will keep the cool air in, and the heat out, which of course means lower energy bills for you.
Update Your House Numbers
If you’re one of the many that entertains all spring / summer, you’ll want to make sure your house numbers are fully visible for any guests. Consider replacing your homes old numbers with new ones that are larger, place them under a light fixture for better visibility at night.
Update Fixtures
Spring is a great time to check your homes exterior light fixtures, consider upgrading to energy efficient lighting if your lights aren’t functioning properly. If you’re planning on doing a ton of outdoor entertaining, you’ll definitely need proper lighting along your walkways, entryways and of course extra ambiance lighting.
Fix Up Your Guest Room
If you have a guest room in your home, consider upgrading the bedding, change your window dressings, or add some accessories and fresh plants to give the space a fresh, inviting feel. If you really want to go the extra mile, give the room a fresh coat of paint, preferably in a light, neutral color, making the room feel more open.
