Can You Place a Dumpster in My Front Yard?

Often our customers call and ask the question: “Can you place a dumpster in my front yard?”  When this question comes into our call center it is always difficult for us to answer. In short, the easy answer is yes we can place a dumpster in your front yard. However, let me follow that up with the fact that your grass and any other landscaping around it will most likely perish in the process. You see, when we place a dumpster on your grass, it essentially suffocates each blade’s roots and in turn kills the grass. Now if you’re like me, I spend a decent amount of time trying to keep my grass looking nice and green. The last thing that I want is any of my grass dying.

One of your concerns may be the dumpster damaging your driveway. It is a completely normal concern and one that we get often. This is the reason most people ask about placing it in the grass instead of putting it on the driveway. Common sense often tells folks that a dumpster won’t create any abrasive damage in the grass. However, most don’t realize that the dumpster will in turn kill the grass. Therefore, we have come up with a system that allows us to place the dumpster container on your driveway while preventing abrasive damage. Each one of our uniformed drivers places protective boards down creating a barrier between the driveway and your dumpster. This allows us to safely drop the dumpster optimizing space while not killing any of your grass.

Another problem with place a dumpster in your grass is the deep ruts that could potentially form. Sitting on dry ground would kill your grass but wouldn’t make ruts. But, as soon as it gets the slightest bit of moisture from rain or snow, the dumpster will sink very deep into the ground creating ruts. Therefore, we always recommend placing your dumpster safely on a solid surface such as concrete, asphalt, or gravel.

We hope we’ve been able to answer “Can you place a dumpster in my front yard?” As always, if you have any questions do not hesitate to call our office or check out our other FAQs.
