How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Dumpster?
Waste Solutions 123 services nationwide, meaning we can’t give you an exact answer on how much a dumpster will cost to rent. The cost of a roll off dumpster is based on a number of factors, including:
- Location
- Dumpster Size
- Type of Debris Disposed
- Tons Included
- Rental Period
- Availability
When choosing which size dumpster you need, consider both how much debris you need to dispose of, and how much your debris may weigh. Keep in mind each dumpster size can only hold a certain capacity of debris and will have a set weight limit. Anything exceeding the provided tonnage will result in a fee.
Are There Any Other Cost Factors?
Yes, there is more to renting a dumpster than you may think. Before we can drop off a container to your home or job site, our project managers need to know more about the project. Below, we’ll explain why these factors affect the price of a dumpster rental.
Dumping Fees
Dumping fees will vary widely depending on your municipality. Dumping fees are driven by the free-market economy, if you live in an area where there is private competition, the price tends to be lower, if however you live where there is little competition, or what we call a “franchised area”, prices will usually be higher.
Type Of Debris Disposed / Tons Included
The cost of your rental will also depend on the type of debris being disposed, as well as how much weight is included in the container. Remember to always consult with your project manager about what is and isn’t allowed to be disposed of. There are no hazardous materials, household appliances, paint, mattresses and box springs allowed in the containers, to name a few. If you do put a prohibited item into the dumpster, expect an additional fee.
When setting up your rental, your project manager will inform you on how much tonnage is included. If you are renting a 20 yard dumpster, we normally include 2-3 tons. Once your dumpster is picked up and taken to the landfill, it is weighed at the disposal station. After it’s been emptied, it will be weighed again, the difference is the amount of debris you had put in it. If that number exceeds the provided weight, you will be charged with an overage fee.
Length of Rental Period
You’ll need to determine how long you need your dumpster on site for. Waste Solutions 123 includes a 7 day rental with all of our containers unless otherwise specified by the customer. You may be wondering, “If I only need it for 2 days, will it be cheaper?”. The answer, no. Generally, dumpster rental providers do not discount you even if you only need it for a day or two. This is due to the cost of delivery, pick up, and disposal. The cost of those factors don’t change, no matter how short a time you have it. The longer you need the rental, the more it will cost, be sure to ask how much the cost per day over is when placing your order.
Availability
Pricing depends on availability. Keep in mind there may not always be an available dumpster in your desired size. If you are looking for a 10 yard dumpster for concrete and there are no 10 yard containers available, we will most likely send you a 20 yard container. Of course when this happens, Waste Solutions 123 will work on pricing for our customers. Remember, having a dumpster sent from another location could cost more. For example, if you really only wanted a 20 yard dumpster but none were available, it might be more cost-effective to get the next size up than to have a 20 yard dumpster from a further location.
Permits
Normally, if you are placing a dumpster on public property or in a public street you will need a permit. Be sure to check with your local codes first. If you do need a permit for your rental, Waste Solutions 123 will obtain it for you.
