Utilizing Your Dumpster Rental
Utilizing Your Dumpster
When you rent a dumpster, make sure you’re getting the most use out of it that you possibly can. While some things shouldn’t be thrown in a dumpster, such as electronics, paint, batteries, and other hazardous items, you should take the time to maximize the space you have to work with and how much trash you can eliminate in one trip.
Find the perfect spot for your dumpster
The placement of your rented dumpster can make a big difference in how much use you get out of it. For home renovations and large-scale cleanups, you’ll want it somewhere that won’t impede the flow of traffic through your work space, but close enough that it’s not a trek every time you need to throw something away. For upper-floor cleanings, you may be able to place it directly below a window to eliminate the need for repeated trips up and down the stairs.
Toss trash by size
Throw away the smaller items first. While you may want to get the larger items out of the way first, chances are they’re going to block spaces that could be filled by smaller items – and you’re bound to have much more of those.
Break down the big things
When the time comes to get rid of the bigger items, it’s much easier to break them down into more manageable pieces first. Remove the cushions from old furniture, break down old tables and chairs into pieces before tossing them, and try to smash down as much as you can when filling up the dumpster.
Work safe and smart
Using garbage bags or filling up boxes is a great way to cut down on trips to the dumpster and saves space to throw more things away. Obviously, breaking down the bigger items as we describe above will save you and your coworkers the strains of heavy lifting. Creating a “fire line” of workers can also make things go much more smoothly: have one person fill up a bag or box, then hand it off to the next person to toss it in the dumpster, and maybe delegate one or two others for shifting things around and breaking the big pieces to fit everything into the dumpster.
